Obituary of John F. Nielsen
John (Jack) Nielsen, age 91, of Bloomington, MN passed away peacefully on November 23, 2024. Jack was born August 18, 1933, in Minneapolis, MN to William and Florence Nielsen. He grew up on Lake Nokomis in the second house built on the lake and spent summers at his family cabin in northern Minnesota. Jack served honorably in the United States Navy and appeared in Life Magazine in 1957 for being a member of NORAD (North American Air Defense Command). He and Audrey married in 1955 and together they had five children. Jack was a devoted father and husband serving as a leader for the Boy Scouts and volunteering for the Minnesota Association for Retarded Citizens. Jack had an infectious sense of humor, an amazing memory for jokes, and a love of laughter that endeared him to all who met him. He loved golf and sang in a barbershop choir for 20 years. He was a pioneer in electronics, working with computers at a time when one computer consumed an entire room, and he could fix anything. After retirement he and Audrey enjoyed snow birding in Florida and traveling the world by cruise ship. He continued to share his talents fixing electronics by volunteering at Value Village and Bridging. Jack's legacy is one of love, joy, and laughter. He is survived by Audrey, his loving wife of 69 years, children, Brad (Deb) Nielsen, Lorilee (Lori) Nielsen, Julie (Greg) Jones, Nancy (Tom) Adelmann, and Robb (Tina) Nielsen, eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held December 9, 2024, at The Cremation Society of Minnesota (7110 France Ave S, Edina, MN) at 11:00 am. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am. A private military interment will be held at Fort Snelling at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the charity of your choice.
