Obituary of Doris Marian Morberg
Doris Marian Morberg of Duluth, age 89, passed away peacefully at Open Arms Senior Living in Duluth on November 24, 2024.
Doris was born in Stephen, MN on July 22, 1935 to Patrick and Thora McGlynn. She graduated from Stephen High School in 1953 and then moved to Minneapolis. She married Alfred Morberg in Stephen, MN on October 26, 1954. Doris and Alfred moved to Maryland where Alfred was stationed in the US Navy. They returned to Minneapolis where Doris worked for Prudential Insurance and then Title Insurance in downtown Minneapolis. Doris and Alfred built a home in Brooklyn Park, MN in 1962 and welcomed 3 children before they moved to the Woodland neighborhood in Duluth. In the fall of 1970, Jill was born and their family moved to Bergen Lake where Al and Doris and family lived for 53 years. They were blessed with many wonderful neighbors and families on Bergen Lake over their lifetime.
Doris was maybe best known for her homemade dishes and baked goods. Her caramel rolls as well as her gourmet chocolate chip cookies were coveted by everyone. Christmas was always celebrated with a myriad of beautiful cookies that she baked for her family and neighbors. Doris also spent many years decorating cakes for special occasions for friends and family. She was a very active person and not much could keep her from getting out for a walk or taking care of her beloved home. Doris was an avid walker, often averaging 30 or more miles weekly on Taft Road. Other hobbies Doris enjoyed were crafting, reading, cross-stitching and tending to hervegetable garden. Doris also spent many years volunteering for the Grand Lake Fire Department Auxiliary.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Morberg; grandson, Jackson Gebeck; parents Patrick and Thora McGlynn; her infant brother Morris; brothers Patrick II (Patty) McGlynn and Clayton (Topper) McGlynn and sister, Janet Anderson.
Doris is survived by her brother Richard (Chipper) & Carolyn McGlynn of Osseo; her sons, Mitchell (Yuan) Morberg of Hillman, MN; Kent (Heather) Morberg of Saginaw; Wendy (Kurt) Johnson and Jill (Craig Peterson) Morberg both of Duluth; grandchildren, Wesley and Mya Morberg of Hillman; Kyle (Kaylyn) Morberg and Brad Morberg, both of Duluth; Libby (Michael) Wallace of East Bethel, MN; Nathan and Clara Gebeck of Duluth and the apple of her eye, great-grandson Levi Morberg of Duluth, as well as many nieces and nephews.
We would like to thank the entire staff at Open Arms Senior Living as well as Moments Hospice for their extraordinary care and comfort. A special thanks to all the Bergen Lake friends and neighbors for their love and support over the years.
