Obituary of June Madelyn Freese
June Madelyn Freese (née Ward), age 92, of Bloomington, passed away on Oct. 22, 2024.
Survived by children Connie (Brett Modrell), Susan, Karyl Rice (Byron), and Robert; grandchildren Erik Rice (Mary Senteno), Maura Rice, Lynne Freese (Nate Emge), and Michael Freese; and great-grandchildren Jude and Aria Rice and Theo and Elaine Emge. Also survived by brother Pat Ward (Kay).
Preceded in death by parents and four siblings, along with husband of 72 years, Fred.
June and Fred met as students at Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD; both taught in one-room schoolhouses in Albee, SD, before marrying Aug. 13, 1951. June left teaching to raise her family and was a devoted mother and grandmother; she attended countless games, concerts, plays, and programs. June later resumed her career as a teacher aide in the Bloomington schools and made many good friends.
Her hobbies included walking, gardening, and reading. June also enjoyed summer car trips with her family across the United States and Canada.
Funeral service Friday, Dec. 13, at 11 a.m., Church of St. Edward, 9401 Nesbitt Ave S., Bloomington. Visitation 1 hour prior; reception following. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Meals on Wheels.
