Obituary of George Sornson
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of George, age 92 on November 12, 2024, of Richfield. George was a beloved friend, father, grandfather and pet owner, who leaves behind sons Bendt and Christian (Laurie), grandchildren Nolan, Annika, and Ian, nieces and nephews, Larry, Linda, Deb, Jim, as well as best friend and companion, Jan Miller. Preceded in death by parents Hazel and George, and sisters Marlys and Dolores.
Born on October 31, 1932, in St. Croix Falls, WI, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps after high school, proudly serving in the Korean War. Following his honorable service, he pursued higher education at the University of Minnesota, earning both a Bachelor's degree and an MBA, which set the stage for a successful career at Paine Webber.
Outside of work, George had a passion for finance, as well as a surprising knack for dancing - clumsy, size-14 feet and all. He was a hard worker with a big smile and a goofy sense of humor, and he loved his animals (especially springer spaniels).
A memorial service will be held on November 26 from 12:00pm - 3:00pm at the Cremation Society of Minnesota (7110 France Ave S [Edina]) to celebrate his life. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all who supported him in his final days, including Saido, Farhiya I., Monica, Peggy, Tracy, Stephanie, Annette, and Amos.
While George may no longer walk among us, his spirit and love will remain in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know him. Rest in peace, George - you will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the Animal Humane Society or Red Lake Rosies.
