Obituary of Frank Bertram Ratliff
Frank Bertram Ratliff, 76, passed away on October 24, 2024. Born 1/6/48 at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, the oldest son of Col. Frank G. and Ann M. Ratliff, Frank traveled with his parents and two brothers to many military stations both stateside and abroad.
After marrying in 1968, he was drafted into the Army and was fortunate enough to spend most of his commitment in Kirch Goens, Germany. Upon return to the States, he received a bachelor's degree in accounting and established an accounting practice in southern Florida in the middle 70s.
He eventually led his family away from the hustle and bustle of South Florida to the peaceful north woods of Minnesota. There he found his true calling and shared with those he loved his belief that true freedom isn't found in pursuing wealth, but in simplifying life and embracing one's individual purpose.
A perfectionist in his carpentry, Frank was dependable and always there to lend a hand, never imposing or burdening his friends and family. Those fortunate enough to know him deeply were touched by his wisdom, generosity and unwavering integrity. A founding member of the Evergreen Volunteer Fire Department and First Responder in the early 1980s, Frank retired in 2012, working on local projects at home and for family and friends. Frank loved his pipe, red wine, cats (particularly Zimmy, Zimmy Jr and Zimmy III), sarcastic humor and ghost pepper cheese.
Frank was a quiet and principled man who has left a lasting legacy of simplicity and self-reliance. He will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of seeing beyond his quiet demeanor and experiencing the depth of his character. His memory serves as a reminder that the greatest riches in life are often found in simplicity.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Col. Frank Gordon Ratliff and Ann McKenzie Ratliff.
He is survived by his wife, Veronica; sons Frank (Rhonda) and Wesley; grandchildren Kiah, Jackson, Finley, Lawson and Saylor Ratliff; a brother Robert (Imogene) Ratliff in North Carolina, and a brother John (Debbie Daniel) Ratliff in Montana.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
