Obituary of Lorraine Drunetta Bedell

Lorraine Drunetta Bedell, 83 gained her wings on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at her home in Bloomington, Minnesota.   

Lorraine (Herron) Bedell was born on April 9, 1941, in Kansas City, Missouri. In 1956 she moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota to live with her uncle, Glen Herron, and his wife Margaret. After arriving in Minneapolis, she attended Minneapolis Central High School, where she graduated in June of 1960. She was a member of Zion Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and participated in the Baptist Training Union (BTU). 

On October 27, 1962, she married Walter Bedell and on March 11, 1963, they were blessed with their son Leonardo.  

In late 1964, Lorraine and her son moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. There she raised Leonardo and set out on a new career. She was a Member of Shiloh Baptist, Oklahoma City, OK. She obtained a job with the Department of Defense at the Tinker Airforce Base where she worked in Computer Operations Support for 35 years.  

During her years in Oklahoma City, she immersed herself in different crafts, she sewed, crocheted, and then fell in love with baking and decorating cakes. She started her own business by baking and decorating cakes for all occasions, which also included catering weddings and birthdays. After her journey in cake decorating, she started creating and selling jewelry, she loved her crafts. 

Lorraine Retired in 2006 and decided to move back to Minnesota to be closer to her family. In that same year, she became a loving member of New Beginnings Baptist Tabernacle, where she worked tirelessly in the Office and help developed the New Beginnings Newsletter “The Miracle.” 

She was preceded in death by her Father George Herron, Jr., Husband, Walter Bedell, Son, Leonardo Bedell, and Grandson, Jermaine Herron. 

Lorraine is survived by her Daughter Sherrill Herron; Grandsons, Leshawn Bedell, Stephans Wilburn, and Elias Wilburn; Granddaughters  Isinia (Bedell) McFarland, Letinia (Bedell) Cruz; Great-Grandsons, Dylan Bedell, Josuah (Woogie) Pederson, Javion (Mister) Wilburn, Greyson Wilburn, David Diamond and Great-granddaughters,  Lanicia Harper, Kysta Harper, Zariyah Bell, Taylor Wilburn, Nylah Wilburn, Nasiya Bedell, Ka'leah Clifton, Ameris Bedell, Skylar Wilburn, Zahirah Wilburn, and Heavyn Wilburn.

 

Memorial Services for Lorraine will be on November 15, 2024, at New Beginnings Baptist Ministries, 4301 S. 1st Avenue, Minneapolis, MN.  Visitation – 11:00 am.  and Service – noon.
