Obituary of Jackson Lee Gebeck

Jackson Lee Gebeck, Ma’iingan, (Wolf) 17, passed away suddenly October 24th at his home in Duluth after a brief illness.

On May 19, 2007, Jackson was born at St. Mary’s- Essentia Hospital in Duluth. 

Jack came into the world early as a 24 week twin with sister Clara, and together they lit up the world.  At one pound, ten ounces, no one would have expected so much joy to come from a tiny little package.

The neonatal intensive care unit was the first of many journeys traveled and because of this journey Jack met many loving people along the way. 

From specialists to surgeons, Jack had a very medically challenging life, but even so, he found so much joy in his world.  He loved all the people he got to spend time with; loving personal care assistants, therapists, teachers, paraprofessionals, nurses, social workers, foster parents and so many others. 

Jack loved his older brother Nathan, who was always quick to hug Jack, retrieve his toys, and entertain him.  

And as a twin, the special bond he had with his twin sister Clara was evident. Clara and Jack were always a tag team; Jack would be well, and then Clara would be sick, and vice versa. Jack wouldn’t sleep well, and then Clara actually didn’t sleep well either. 

Jack loved music.  Not all music, mainly Jack music, silly children songs, Raffi, and Johnny Cash. He had an immense playlist, but his favorite was a song titled, ‘Kiss the Moose‘, and any other songs his mom would try to sing to him.

Anyone who had spent time with Jack can recite the lyrics to most of the Jack songs.

Jack loved musical toys, but most especially his bongos.  He must have had 7 or 8 of them.

And, if you were lucky enough to rub his buzz cut head, you were important to him, and he loved you. 

Jack spent half of his life at home with his family in Two Harbors. When he was 8, Jack and his sister moved in to foster care with Lindsey and Isaac Carey in Duluth who provided a loving and supportive home for 7 years. Jack moved to a group home in Vadnais Heights for just over 2 years before finally coming back to Duluth in September of 2024 where he was settling in to a loving and beautiful group home. 

We are so thankful for the 17 years we were able to spend with him and cherished all the love he had to give and share with others.

Jack is survived by his parents, Chris Gebeck of Bemidji and Jill Morberg of Duluth; brother Nathan Gebeck and sister Clara Gebeck both of Duluth; great grandmother Melvina Smith of Red Lake; grandparents,  Kip and Georgia Gebeck of Coon  Rapids, and Doris Morberg of Duluth.  He was  preceded in death by his grandfather, Al Morberg.  Jack is also survived by foster parents Isaac and Lindsey Carey of Duluth, as well as many loving uncles, aunts, and cousins. 

A celebration of his life will take place on Saturday, November 2nd from 1-3 pm at the Cremation Society of Minnesota at 4100. Grand Avenue in Duluth.
