Obituary of James "Jim" R Peters

 

James “Jim” R. Peters, age 90, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2024, surrounded by loving family.

Jim was born on February 2, 1934, in Wycoff, MN.  He was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church & School in Wycoff.  Jim attended high school in Stewartville, MN.

In 1959, Jim married Janice Peters (Britton) in Billings, MT.  Shortly thereafter, they moved to Hastings, MN, where they raised their family and lived for over 60 years.

Jim established James R. Peters Excavating in 1966, which he operated for 30 years.  He later became a long-distance mail hauler where he pursued his love for scenery and adventure while on the road.  Outside of his career, Jim enjoyed wintering in Florida with Janice, picnicking near the Vermillion Falls, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.  Jim also enjoyed camping and riding horses in southern Minnesota with his “cowboy” buddies, as well as delightfully decorating his front yard for holidays.

Jim is preceded in death by his father, Carl Peters, mother, Esther Peters (Walman), sisters, Donna Reuning and Patty Smith, and brother, Wally Peters.

Jim is survived by his wife, Janice Peters (Britton), Lori Thoreson (Herb Thoreson), Susan Pitra (Joe Pitra), Nancy Johnson (Dave Johnson), Debra Harris, 5 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled for November 16, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., followed by service at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church located at 202 8th Street West, Hastings, MN, 55033. Following the service, lunch will be held at the church.  Everyone is welcome to attend the interment at Lakeside Cemetery located at 920 Nininger Road, Hastings, MN, 55033.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, memorials are preferred to St. John’s Lutheran Church or Hastings Family Service.
