Obituary of Helen Mabel Slordal

DULUTH, Minn. -- Helen M. Slordal, 103, died peacefully at Aftenro in Duluth on June 7. Born on Oct. 19, 1914 in Ironwood, Mich., she formerly lived at 414 N 61st Ave. W. in Duluth, a home she and her husband (Morrie) built, for more than 60 years. Helen and Morrie were married for 53 years when he passed away in 1993. She and Morrie attended UMD hockey games and were active in the UMD Blue Line Club. She was active in the AAA Pikers Ladies golf club as well as in circle, fellowship club, and other activities at Elim Lutheran Church. At Edgewood Vista, where she lived more than ten years, she loved to play Rummikub and go to exercise sessions with her friends. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, John B. and Ellen Westman Nelson; her husband, Maurice (Morrie); eight brothers and sisters; and several nieces and nephews. She is survived by her son Lynn (Carrie), Saginaw; daughter Mary (Ray) Linville, Pinehurst, N.C.; grandchildren Lori (Adam) Swor, Duluth; Morgan Chumich, Leavenworth, Kan.; Russell (Patricia) Linville, Apex, NC; Rachel (Jesus) Linville, Rochester, NY; seven great-grandchildren, Courtney, Allison, Isaac, Kathryn, Ryan, Dan, and Esperanza; nieces, nephews and their families; and Murphy, beloved grand-dog. Special thanks to Drs. Robinson and Baumbach, the staff at Aftenro, her friends and the staff at Edgewood Vista, friend Tanya Danner, as well as special great-niece Kelli, who visited her frequently each week. We will all miss her very much. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Aftenro, Hospice or charities of your choice. She will be buried at Oneota Cemetery. A celebration of life, coffee and conversation will be held at Edgewood Vista Independent Living, 4125 Westberg Rd. on Wednesday, June 13, at 1 p.m.
