Obituary of Karen Elaine Haugen

Our mother Karen Elaine (Benoit) Haugen left us to be with the lord on October 1, 2024, due to a surgical complication.

She was born in Duluth, MN on October 8, 1936, to Edward Benoit and Esther (Johnson) Benoit. Karen had one sibling Keith Benoit she lost to cancer in 2016.

Karen married her high school sweetheart, Robert Haugen, and together they had 4 children. Sandra Wojtoff (Joseph), Rodney Haugen (Lori), Bret Haugen (Debra), and Bart Haugen (Susie).  Karen has 10 grandchildren: Sara & Jared, Nicole, Danielle, Amanda & Robby, Katie & Kerri, Matthew & Beth. 17 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

Karen retired from the City of Duluth after 26 years of service on December 31, 1998. She lost her beloved life and traveling partner, Ronald Edblad, of 21 years on October 1, 2010. 

The family wishes to thank the wonderful Palliative staff at Essentia for their comfort care. A special Thank you to Dr. Kathleen Monaghan for her caring and compassionate words.

A celebration of life will be held on October 25, 2024, at the Superior Elks #403 upstairs from 3pm to 7pm. Food served @ 5:00pm.
