Obituary of Bruce Wayne Meyers

 

Bruce Wayne Meyers, age 74, of Farmington MN passed away at home, surrounded by family, on September 28th, 2024. Bruce was born September 24th, 1950, at Tinker Air Force Base, OK. Son to a military father, Bruce moved around a few times in his youth, ultimately settling in the Twin Cities. Bruce graduated from Minneapolis Central High School in 1968 and married his high school sweetheart Barbara Martin in April of 1970. Teresa Marie, Bruce’s oldest daughter, was born  in December 1970. Bruce and Barb divorced in 1979.

As his career progressed, Bruce started working within the growing IT field. He spent a few key years working at Northland Financial where he met his future wife, Diane Hendrickson, through the company softball team and mutual friends. Bruce and Diane were married in November of 1982. Bruce welcomed his second daughter, Kelly Lynn, in July of 1987. His youngest daughter Amy Marie was born a few years later, in January of 1991.

In addition to his time at Northland, Bruce worked as a Computer Operator, a Programmer, and eventually an IT Director throughout his career. His most recent working years were spent in the IT side of the Banking industry, and while working at Anchor Bank, he went back to school to complete his bachelor’s degree from Metro State University in December of 2006. Bruce retired from Anchor Bank in 2016 after over 10 years supporting Online Banking.

From high school to beyond retirement, Bruce made time for his favorite things. He was very musical and played in a band in high school and continued to play guitar throughout his life. Bruce was a part of a group of friends that went on annual fishing trips spanning almost 50 years. Some of these men also golfed and skied together for many years, and shared Bruce’s love of long rides on their motorcycles. Bruce spent countless weekends at “the lake” teaching his daughters and grandsons to fish, playing on the beach, and enjoying family time on the boat. He was also very involved in his faith community. Bruce participated in many Via de Christo weekends with friends from church and served as Church President at St. Stephen’s Lutheran for 4 years.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard Meyers and Darlene & Fred Lorenz; his sister Cora Ellen Richards (Scottie); and many other relatives and close friends. Bruce is survived by his wife Diane; daughters Teresa, Kelly (Anthony), and Amy (Michael); grandsons James, Daniel, and Owen; and brother Gary (Rachel).

A Visitation will be held at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in West St. Paul, MN on Wednesday October 9th beginning at 10:00 am, the Celebration of Life service will start at 11:00 am, with lunch following.

In lieu of flowers or memorial gifts, donations can be made in Bruce’s name to benefit Lung Cancer Research or Pulmonary Fibrosis Research.
