Obituary of Violet Beth Schlitz

Violet Beth Schlitz, age 93, passed away on October 4, 2024, in Elk River, MN after a long and fulfilling life.  Born on May 18, 1931 in Guelph, ND.  Violet is preceded in death by her parents, William Holmes and Frances Burkhardt, husband Fred, four brothers (William, Albert, Charles and George) and four sisters (Margaret, Virginia, Marie and June). 

Violet will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by her many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews, who survive her.

Violet grew up in Park Rapids, MN and graduated high school in 1949. In 1991 she retired from Marsh & McLennan Companies where she worked for over 40 years.  She spent many years volunteering her time with Sharing and Caring Hands and the Plymouth Christian Youth Center in Minneapolis.  Violet always believed in giving back to the community.

Violet will be remembered for her fun and outgoing personality.  She asks that you do not grieve for her, but know that she had a full life of travel and fun with her family, friends and coworkers.  Over the years she had the pleasure of meeting and knowing so many nice and wonderful people.  So, if she brought a chuckle or some goodness to your life raise a glass and toast her while listening to her favorite song “Kansas City Here I Come”.

Violets passion was Minnesota sports teams.  She was an avid Minnesota Twins fan.  She could be found many days watching or listening to the Twins games.  She enjoyed going to spring training games in Florida and visited almost every ballpark there to see the Twins play.  Violet also attended several Minnesota Gopher football games as well many bowl games.

Her family would like to give thanks to all the caregivers at the Guardian Angels by the Lake and Triniti Hospice.

Her celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Violets memory to the Plymouth Christian Youth Center in Minneapolis.
