Obituary of Gary Lee Bartolett

Our devoted husband and father Gary left us heartbroken on September 28, 2024.

Born on December 27, 1945, a post-war and after Christmas gift to parents Russell and Virginia (Orth) in Toledo, OH. In addition to Toledo, lived in Sault Ste. Marie, MI, Battle Creek, MI, Miles City, MT, Bozeman, MT, and St. Louis Park, MN before finally settling in Edina, MN in 1968. Attended Michigan College of Mining and Technology (Sault Branch), Kellogg Community College, and graduated from Montana State University where he also played the trombone in the 1966 Camellia Bowl. Married Nina Marie Egbert the day after his 1967 graduation. A numbers person, Gary became an accountant beginning with Arthur Andersen & Co., working for much of the 1970s and 1980s at The Toro Company, the 2000s at United Health, and wrapping up his career as a tax consultant. He hated to fly, so he bought an RV and took the family camping in Minnesota State Parks and the National Parks of the western U.S. and Canada. He loved trains from the Big Boy locomotive down to his HO scale model. Baseball was his favorite sport and he made sure the whole family could attend the 1987 World Series. He also sent in statistical corrections to the Baseball Encyclopedia. He enjoyed reading sci-fi, fantasy, and very thick history books. He collected stamps and built and refinished long lasting wood furniture. We hope a glorious crop of tomatoes awaits him in the next realm, even better than the beefsteaks he was so proud of in his own garden. Most of all, he loved his family who will miss him every day.

He is survived by wife Nina and son Gary Allyn of Edina, MN, daughter Judy and daughter-in-law Char Miller of Roseville, MN, brother Glenn (Linda) of El Paso, TX, and brother-in-law Jon Egbert (Lois Bolton) of Bozeman, MT.

A special thank you to the staff at M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital who were so respectful to him in his last days.
