Obituary of Dolores "Dee" A. Zemke
Dolores "Dee" A. (Kuhn) Zemke, age 90, of Alexandria, MN, formerly of Minneapolis, MN, died in Alexandria Thursday, Sept. 26, peacefully at home with her husband of 69 years by her side. Dolores was born to Elfrieda (Tappe) and Harold Kuhn on May 16, 1934, in Minneapolis, MN. She grew up in Richfield. At the age of 12 she moved to Minneapolis, attending Eugene Field School. Her education continued at Ramsey Junior High, and later she graduated from Vocational High School in 1952. She worked for Western Weighing and Inspection Bureau before marrying DeWayne (Dewey) A. Zemke on May 13, 1955. This union was blessed with four children. They lived in NE Minneapolis before moving to Columbia Heights in 1957, where they resided for the next 48 years. Dee was a 50-year member of the Columbia Heights Methodist Church. She and Dewey delivered Meals on Wheels for many years through her church.
In 2005 Dewey and Dee moved to Alexandria, MN, where they were currently residing, and she joined Villard Grace Pointe Church.
Dee and Dewey loved camping. In the later years they loved traveling to the southwest (AZ) to spend winters in Mesa and meeting friends in Palm Desert and Carlsbad, CA. Her hobbies were eating out, reading, knitting, refinishing furniture, and playing “Words with Friends” on her iPad. Dee loved playing any kind of game but especially enjoyed playing card games. She was a member of the Villard and Alexandria Senior Center card clubs. While she enjoyed all these activities, she took special joy and delight in her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Dolores is preceded in death by her parents, son Keith, brothers Richard and Roger. She is survived by her husband DeWayne and children Kwin (Terry), Karyn Clare (Larry), and Kay Carlin (John), grandchildren Allyson (Levi), Allysa (Brett), Tyler (friend Jordan), Andy (Caroline), Keli (friend Eden), Nathen (Grace), Ian (friend Shelby), and great grandchildren Madilyn, Graham, Charlie, Frida, Quintin, and a baby soon to arrive. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Mary Beth Kuhn, LuAnn Kuhn, and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be Saturday, Oct. 5, 11:00 a.m. at Grace Pointe Church, Villard, MN, with visitation one hour before the service.
