Obituary of George W. Lund
George W. Lund, age 93, of Edina, died peacefully on April 24, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. George was preceded in death by his parents Simon and Bertina Lund, brothers Robert and Simon Lund, and wife, Jeanne (Busse). George is survived by his sons Todd Lund (Lindy) and Colby Lund (Jackie); and grandchildren Hilary (Stephen) and Connor (Nora) along with many precious relatives and friends. Born October 13, 1922, George grew up in Cumberland, Wisconsin enjoying life in the north woods of Wisconsin with his brothers. He loved the outdoors whether it be walking through the woods or paddling a canoe. George attended Macalester College where he met Jeanne, his wife of 66 years. George graduated from University of Minnesota Medical School in 1946 and enrolled in the U.S. Army as a physician. He spent most of his military service in Newfoundland, Canada, from 1947-1949. Upon returning from Newfoundland, George joined 11 other physicians to start the St. Louis Park Medical Center in June of 1951. The medical clinic thrived, with specialists in all areas of medicine, and was the driving force behind the creation of Methodist Hospital. The St. Louis Park Medical Center ultimately became what is now known as the Park Nicollet Clinic. George's initial specialty was pediatrics. He was attracted to this area because of his love of children and interest in helping young parents as they start building their families. He soon developed an interest in the new subspecialty of pediatric cardiology, becoming one of the first board certified pediatric cardiologists in the State of Minnesota. As this subspecialty developed, George spent much of his time practicing at Minneapolis Children's Hospital during its formative years. George was a past president of the Hennepin County Medical Society, Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, and The Foundation For Health Care for the State of Minnesota. He retired from the practice of medicine in 1984. George's love for the outdoors led to his love for skiing. He enjoyed many wonderful ski trips to Colorado with his family. George also had a passion for golf. He enjoyed playing many rounds of golf with his son, Colby and grandson, Connor. He was a member of Interlachen Country Club. George and Jeanne spent the last 10 years of their life at Friendship Village where they enjoyed many old and new friendships. Many thanks to all the staff at Friendship Village for their care of George in the later stages of his life. Thanks also to the Park Nicollet Hospice for the care they provided over the last few months. A special thanks to Pastor Jody Phenow and all of CPC visitors who spent time with George in recent years. Visitation will be Friday, April 29 from 10-11 am, service at 11:00 am with lunch to follow at Christ Presbyterian Church, 6901 Normandale Road, Edina. Memorials preferred to Christ Presbyterian Church Student Ministry.
