Obituary of Narendra Dev Thaku Shrestha
Narendra Dev Thaku Shrestha. Born: January 4, 1949, at Indrachowk, Kathmandu, Nepal. Passed away on September 8, 2024 in Edina, MN, US Narendra completed his early education in India. He broke several barriers and won several accolades that helped him complete his double majors (science and humanities) and a Masters degree in English Literature. He was a career Academician and retired as Associate Professor of English literature. He also served as Assistant Campus Chief in Patan Campus. In his 30+ years long career, he helped thousands of Nepali students with English language and was one of the pioneering educators in the field. His dedication in the field left lasting impact in the educational landscape and his influence continues to be felt by those he mentored and guided.
Narendra was well known for his mental alacrity, well-groomed appearance and warm smile. He was an avid chess player and an excellent swimmer. He enjoyed card games and rarely if ever, lost in Blackjack.
He is survived by his beloved wife Shova, with whom he shared more than 50 years of marriage. He is also survived by his two sons, Nripendra Dev Thaku Shrestha and daughter-in-law Bandana Shrestha of Tracy, CA and Dr. Rupendra Dev Thaku Shrestha and daughter-in-law Dr. Rakshya Shrestha of Edina, MN and two daughters, Dr. Alka Thaku Stoelinga and son-in-law Marc Stoelinga of Amsterdam, Netherlands and Er. Suravi Karmacharya and son-in-law Er. Rojan Lal Karmacharya of Fremont, CA. His legacy continues through his two granddaughters, Riddhima and Aavya and four grandsons, Shrey, Nilav, Bouke and Ronav.
Narendra’s contributions to education and his loving presence in his family’s lives will be deeply missed. His absence leaves a profound void, but the memories of his grace, compassion and contributions to education will forever survive through memories of him in people he has influenced. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.
