Obituary of DiAnn Sharon Johnston
DiAnn Sharon Johnston, age 83, of Rogers, Minnesota passed away with her family by her side on September 4, 2024, in St. Louis Park, Minnesota.
She was born in Deer River, Minnesota on September 17, 1940, attended Deer River High School, where she was head majorette, and graduated in 1958. She went on to further her education at Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis, Minnesota. While living in Minneapolis for 10 years, she worked in various secretarial positions, married, and had her 2 children.
She eventually settled in Spooner, Wisconsin, where she helped with the family business, was active in Jaycettes, and enjoyed bowling and golf.
DiAnn later returned to school to become a nurse. She began a long career in nursing at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, Minnesota, while residing in Superior, Wisconsin. Upon retirement in 2005, she moved to Rogers, Minnesota to be near her children and grandchildren.
DiAnn enjoyed traveling around the country, shopping for clothes and antiques, but above all, spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She was an avid reader of current events. She always carried a word puzzle book and dog treats for her "granddog" Oscar, in her bag. She will forever be remembered as a wonderful cook. She loved cooking and had a special way of bringing her family together for delicious meals on the holidays and making everyone feel welcome. Her fresh baked apple crisp was anticipated by everyone in the fall.
Over the years she was an active member of her church, attending Word for Women, OWLs, crocheting prayer shawls, and baking brownies on Mondays for Hope Lodge.
She was always there to help her family, babysitting grandchildren and Oscar, or providing rides and meals. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, who will be missed by all.
DiAnn is preceded in death by her parents, Andrew (Dutch) and Doris DeMeyere; sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Larry Schaar; and niece, Heidi Lynn Christiansen.
She is survived by daughter, Debbie (Dan) Bruss; son, Lance (Wendy) Johnston; grandchildren, Hailey Bruss, Keegan Jacobson, Karly and Taylor Johnston; nephews, Chad (Marina) Schaar and Christopher Beresford.
A Memorial Service celebrating DiAnn’s life will be held at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, Maple Grove, Minnesota.
