Ronnie (Ron) Poulin

Obituary of Ronnie (Ron) Poulin

Ronnie (Ron) Poulin passed unexpectedly on September 7th, 2024. He was born in Poughkeepsie, NY on October 20th, 1971 to parents Aline and Renald Poulin (both deceased). He leaves behind a son, Henri Poulin, age 14 a sister, Kathy Greene (Poulin), a brother in law, Stephen Greene, two nephews, Corey and Ryan Greene, and an ex-wife and good friend Chera Poulin. He graduated from Highland High in Highland, NY in 1990, and directly afterwards enlisted in the Air Force. In 1993 he was accepted into the Air Force Academy, a huge accomplishment which made his family so proud.

Ron received his officer commission in 1997 and was stationed at Wright Patterson AFB. He later moved to Holloman AFB in Almagordo, NM where he adopted his beloved Springer Spaniel Jack. He finished out his military career at Offutt AFB in Nebraska and received an honorable discharge from the military as a Captain in 2006. Ron then relocated to the Washington, DC area where he continued to work in the Intelligence Community as a consultant. He then rejoined the government as a program manager at the Department of Defense from 2010 – 2016 and was working at the IRS as a program manager from 2016 until his death.

While in the DC area, Ron met and married Chera Poulin (Haworth), and they had a son Henri in October of 2009. The family moved to Minnesota in 2019, and enjoyed many things the state has to offer, including ice fishing, local museums, hockey, and boating on a few of the 10,000 lakes.

Ron received many professional accolades over his career and enjoyed his work. He also had a special bond with animals, as they all instantly adored him. Ron was known as a gentle giant, and he was a fierce supporter of all those he loved. One cherished memory is emblematic of who he was. On a trip to Ireland for Chera’s birthday, Ron approached a group of men who were smoking and politely asked that they move further from the patio because his tablemates were bothered by the smoke. They were so impressed by his politeness and kindness that one of their group came over to thank him for the way he approached them. That says so much about his gentleness and goodness.

Perhaps most important is how much Ron loved his family, two-legged and four-legged alike. This includes the many family members in his parents’ homeland of Quebec, Canada and his beloved animals Hank, Lulu, and Pierre.

Ron was an active volunteer at an animal shelter in Buffalo, Minnesota, where the family requests that donations be made in lieu of flowers. https://www.crossroadsshelter.org/in-memory-of-ron-poulin
