Obituary of Robert D. Dietz
Robert (Bob) Dayle Dietz died September 9, 2024 in Sandstone, MN, after a lengthy illness. He was 63.
He was born Sept. 24, 1960, in Breckenridge MN. Named after his mother, Dayle (Shogren) Dietz, and his father, Robert Odell Dietz, he grew up being called “Chip,” because he was a “chip off the old block”.
Bob grew up working in the family grocery store in Wahpeton ND. He attended the University of North Dakota and North Dakota State University. After college he moved to the Twin Cities, where he worked as a supply chain expert for plumbing and heating businesses and several medical device and product companies.
Bob was known for finding hard-to-get items before there were internet searches. Bob bought and shipped products worldwide. He shipped materials overseas by air and seagoing container freight, coordinating with suppliers from as far away as Vietnam.
He followed the NDSU Bison, the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. He enjoyed virtual “happy hours” with family during the pandemic. He loved taking spur of the moment vacations with his friend Sheila. Bob will be remembered for his dry sense of humor.
He is survived by his brothers, Bryan Dietz (Jeannie) of Ithaca, NY; and Dan Dietz of Burnsville MN; his sister, Dr. Jane Winston (Roger Grimm) of Fargo ND; two nieces and three nephews; five great-nieces and nephews, and his longtime friend and companion Sheila Sikkink of Coon Rapids, MN. He is preceded in death by his parents and his niece Teresa Haugen.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
Memorials can be directed to the Essentia Health Hospice, Duluth, MN.
