Obituary of David John Zelenak
David John Zelenak, 81, of Brooklyn Center, MN, passed away on September 9, 2024. Born on January 16, 1943, in Minneapolis, MN, he was a dedicated family man and a proud veteran of the US Navy, where he served honorably for six years.
David was a quintessential "girl dad," lovingly raising his daughters and sharing his passions with them. An avid outdoorsman, he cherished fishing and spending time at the family cabin. His hobbies included painting model planes and ships, and he was a fan of big band music and enjoyed solving word searches. David was known for his meticulous care of his tools, a testament to his attention to detail.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; and daughters, Lisa (Adam) Freiberg, Kathy Zelenak, and Kristin (Matt) Jaakola. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Dan (Shari), Brian (Kim), Nick (Caroline), Corey, and Sarah (Tyler); and great-grandchildren: Madilyn, Grace, Henry, Taylor, Brooke, Ruby, Beau, and Vincent.
David was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elsie Zelenak; his brother, Chuck Zelenak; and his grandson, Justin Zelenak.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 17th from 10:00-11:00 AM at the Cremation Society of Minnesota (7835 Brooklyn Blvd, Brooklyn Park) followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 AM.
