Obituary of Marlene Dee Kubitschek
Kubitschek, Marlene Dee (Burgess) of New Brighton and Mounds View, MN
Born May 24, 1936 to Cullen and Mabel Burgess in St Paul, MN. Died peacefully on Sunday, September 8, 2024 surrounded by loved ones.
A 1954 graduate of Humboldt High School (St Paul, MN), Marlene married her high school sweetheart Bill in 1954, stayed in St Paul until their move to Wichita, Kansas for a short period of time and settled in New Brighton, MN where they raised four children.
She worked 20+ years as housekeeper at Presbyterian Homes in Arden Hills gathering lifelong friends.
Her family was the center of her heart. She was always there with support, wisdom, and a loving smile. Her quirky personality made every gathering more joyful. "Danger Danger" and "Garbage Grandma" were endearing nicknames given to her by her Grandchildren. She took pride in her home and yard and cut the grass until it snowed and then shoveled heart attack snow until there was grass to mow again. Although she didn’t prefer to entertain large groups, she always enjoyed the company of those close to her heart.
She was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings, Elvis Presley, and her infamous “Smut Show” (Bold and Beautiful). She loved gardening, birdwatching, and chatting with her Longview Drive neighbors of which she was the longest reigning, original resident of 66 years.
Marlene is preceded in death by parents Cullen Burgess and Mabel Young, daughter Janell Kubitschek, grandson Nicholas Rickard, sister Lavonne (Bonnie) Olson, and former husband Bill Kubitschek.
Survived by daughters Debra and Tami (Randy), her favorite son Bob (Brenda), sincere and dear nephews David and Rick Rentz, niece Cindy (Rentz) Madison as well as 12 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
The family would like to extend gratitude to mom’s Brighton Hospice Team Sally, Peg and Paulie. What an incredible and loving group of individuals.
A service will be held Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at Abiding Savior Lutheran Church, 8211 Red Oak Drive, Mounds View, MN. Service to begin at 11:00 am with visitation one hour prior and a luncheon to immediately follow at the church.
