Dolores Hancock

Obituary of Dolores Elaine Hancock

Dolores Hancock was born on July 1, 1927 in Duluth, MN. She spent her childhood picking wild raspberries with her mother, fishing with her father, and swimming in Lake Superior with her cousins and friends. In high school she moved with her family to Minneapolis, MN. It was here that she met and eventually married Richard “Dick” Johnson, with whom she welcomed four beautiful children: Rick, Bill, Nancy, and Tom. Dolores later married David Hancock, with whom she shared nearly 40 years of marriage before his death in 2007. They enjoyed countless road trips, laughs, and walks with their beloved dogs. Animals and babies were two of Dolores’ passions. She even fostered several babies, providing them with love and security when they needed it most. A forever Duluthian, the city and lake held a special place in her heart. She also loved cardinals, angels, William Kent Krueger novels, and watching golf.

Dolores is preceded in death by her parents Gladys and William Diggles, sister Barbara Diggles, husband David Hancock, and son Richard Johnson. She is survived by her children Bill (Teri) Johnson-Tesch, Nancy (Chuck) Holtan, and Tom (Renee) Johnson; grandchildren, Jennifer (Jorge), Robbie (Kegley), Ben (Amanda), and Kendra (Andy); and ten great grandchildren.

Dolores died on September 6, 2024 after nearly a century of life. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and fun. When asked how she wanted to be remembered in the world, she said: As a kind and loving person with a special love for babies, young children, and animals. Loved by everyone she met, Dolores will be sorely missed.
