Obituary of Catherine Scheunemann
Catherine Rose Scheunemann passed away on Thursday, August 22, at the age of 99 years in New Hope, MN.
Rose was born to Elsie and Bertil Christianson on September 24, 1924. After her mother passed away when Rose was eight years old, she was raised by various family members, including her grandmother, Anna, and her sisters, Mary and Fran.
As a young woman, she met and fell in love with a young sailor named Bill, whom she married on July 12, 1947. She and Bill raised three children in Minneapolis. Rose became an LPN through hard work and determination, studying for exams on her own until she achieved her goal. She worked for years caring for the elderly population before she and Bill retired.
Rose and Bill then moved to their beloved land in Crosslake, MN, to live out their golden years. They grew vegetables, spent time with friends, and enjoyed nature for years until it was time to move where they could be cared for. They settled in New Hope, MN, becoming a popular couple at their apartment building, gaining friends with humor and kindness.
Rose had a great love for her family, enjoying their visits and letters. She maintained her wonderful sense of humor, even in difficult circumstances, and was able to make strong connections all through her life. She deeply loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and was greatly loved in return.
Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, and many other family members and friends. Rose will be deeply missed by her three children: Steve (Nancy), Beth, and Karen (Brad) Eldevick; her four grandchildren: Heidi (Andy) McDonald, Debbi, Lori George and Tracy; and her eight great-grandchildren: Nathaniel Weesner, Easton Nichols, Shelby and Cora McDonald, Braden and Camden George, and Xavier and Kingston Frelix.
The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at Saint Therese of New Hope for their exceptional care of Rose and the friendships they forged with her during her time there.
A celebration of Rose’s long life will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at the Cremation Society of Minnesota: 7835 Brooklyn Blvd., Brooklyn Park, MN 55445. A visitation will be held from 2-3:00 pm, with a service to begin at 3:00 pm followed by a reception with light refreshments until 5:00 pm.
