Obituary of Jean Marjorie Peterson

Jean Marjorie Peterson, 97, passed away on August 27, 2024 at Viewcrest Health Center in Duluth.

Jean was born in Duluth, Minnesota on March 10, 1927 to Carl and Lydia Simi. She grew up in the Morgan Park neighborhood of Duluth where her father Carl worked at the steel plant. She had one older sister Irene. She often remarked what a nice neighborhood Morgan Park was to grow up in. There was a clubhouse nearby where she and her friends spent many days bowling or ice skating depending on the season.

Jean attended Morgan Park High School, where she was a majorette, and graduated in June, 1945. Immediately after graduation she went to work at an ammunitions factory in Baraboo, Wisconsin to support the war effort. In 1946, she met the love of her life, Marvin Adrian Peterson and they were married in May, 1947. They were married for 73 wonderful years.

Jean and Marvin raised four children at a home that they built in Hermantown in 1954. They lived in this home for 65 years. Throughout her life, Jean worked at various secretarial and bookkeeping positions. She enjoyed sewing, cross country skiing, gardening, reading, and traveling. She had a greenhouse where she raised beautiful flowers and vegetables for her garden.  She also had an interest in genealogy and was quite accomplished in tracing family lines. She was the most amazing cook and made many wonderful meals for her family. She also enjoyed spending time at their cabin on Little Grand Lake with children, grandchildren, and friends.

Jean was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and we will miss her dearly. She loved her family deeply and was always there to support each of them and cheer them on.

Jean is preceded in death by her beloved husband Marvin, her parents, Carl and Lydia, and her sister Irene. She is survived by her children Pamela Harden, Mark (Kelly) Peterson, Julie (Marvin) Roberts and Gail (Robert) Klenotich, her grandchildren Jared, Shannon, Whitney, Jennifer, Jessica, Erin, Anne, and Joseph and ten great grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
