Obituary of Isabelle Motzko

Isabelle "Isy" Motzko, beloved sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 15th, 2024, just days before her 87th birthday. Born on August 30th, 1937, on her family's farm near Strasburg, North Dakota, Isy was the cherished daughter of Frank J. and Mary (Stach) Baumgartner. Growing up amidst the love and bustle of her large family, Isy was one of 18 children, and she treasured her childhood spent on the farm, attending country school, and helping with chores alongside her many brothers and sisters.

Isy pursued a career in nursing, dedicating her life to caring for others. She worked as a Registered Nurse and held prominent roles as the Charge Nurse of the St. Alexius Pediatrics Department in Bismarck, North Dakota, and later as the head of the IV team at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, Minnesota. Her dedication to her profession was evident in her compassion and skill in caring for her patients and family.

On September 9th, 1957, Isy married the love of her life, Duane Motzko. Together, they built a beautiful life, settling in Fridley, Minnesota. Isy had many passions, including bowling, softball, cheering on the Minnesota Twins, and spending time at the lakes with family and friends. She and Duane shared a love for travel, creating countless memories on their adventures together. In her quiet moments, Isy enjoyed crocheting intricate patterns and solving cryptogram puzzles, always sharpening her mind.

Isy's faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was deeply committed to her beliefs, always focusing on charity, compassion, and the care of others. Her sense of humor and fun-loving personality endeared her to all who knew her, and she will be remembered for the joy she brought into the lives of those around her.

Isy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Duane; their infant son; ten of her brothers; and five of her sisters. She is survived by her sisters, Lorraine Ferderer, Adeline Duerscherl, and Virginia (John) Westberg, along with nearly 100 nieces and nephews who will carry forward her legacy of love and laughter.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Isy's friends and neighbors, who provided companionship and support after Duane's passing in 2016, and to the compassionate hospice team at Cerenity Residence for their care in her final days.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, August 29th, 2024, at the Church of St. William, located at 6120 5th St NE, Fridley, MN 55432. A luncheon will follow the service, offering an opportunity for family and friends to gather and celebrate Isy's life. Following the social gathering, interment will take place at St. Mary's of Mount Carmel Catholic Cemetery in Long Prairie, Minnesota.

Isy will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
