Obituary of Jim Lewis

Lewis, James “Jim” Nelson, Age 80, joined his soulmate in the afterlife on August 4, 2024 after a brief illness.

James was born on May 29, 1944 to James Henry and Gwendolyn Audry (Jordan) Lewis in Wheeling, WV.
James is survived by his children Shawn Lewis Sr. and Jennifer (Joel) Ligon, grandchildren Shawn Lewis Jr., Stephon (Sarah) Lewis, Elijah Ligon, and Gabriel Ligon, and great-grandchildren Sheyanne Lewis, Justin Lewis & Graham Brown-Lewis. James is additionally survived by his beloved sister Sharon (Lewis) Asher, nephew Ron (Shawna) Asher, and nieces Margo (Asher) Montgomery & Jamie Todd. James also leaves behind many cousins and extended family and friends that felt very much like family.

James was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Mary (Tappon) Lewis whom he could not live without. Additionally preceded by his parents.

James grew up in Wheeling, WV, graduated from Wheeling High School, and attended West Liberty State College before joining the Air Force in 1965. James joined the military during the Vietnam War where he learned many valuable skills and trades that would help him during his career in the telecommunications and technology industries. He achieved the rank of Sergeant when his service ended. He started his career with the telephone company as a lineman (even though he was very afraid of heights!) and retired from there on October 1, 2002 after many company name changes & mergers, career opportunities, and great friendships. He enjoyed every moment of retirement and never looked so happy.

An informal gathering to celebrate James’s life will be held on:
August 25, 2024 from 1pm to 3pm at The Prairie Club located in the Bellwether by Del Webb community, 10025 Elm Lane, Corcoran, MN, 55374.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
