Obituary of Ralph Hugo Giegling
Ralph Hugo Giegling, age 91 of Duluth, MN passed away on August 7th, 2024 at Viewcrest Health Center.
Ralph was born April 23, 1933 to Philip and Matilda Giegling. He Graduated from Emery, SD where he worked as a mechanic in his fathers Texaco Station. Ralph served in the US Army as mechanic and was honorably discharged in 1955. Ralph returned to SD and went to business school in Mitchel, SD where he received his bachelor’s degree in business.
Ralph moved to Minneapolis, MN after graduating and began a career in Sales where he met his love, Sondra Langlie. They were married June 22, 1963 and soon had their first child, Scott Allen Giegling in 1964 with daughter, Stacey Lynn Giegling following in 1969.
Ralph moved his family to Elbow Lake, MN in 1977 where he worked as a manager of a truck stop and high school janitor. He retired to Duluth, MN in 1995 where he lost the love of his life, Sondra in 1996. He lived out the rest of his life in Duluth, MN and had 23 years with the other love of his life, his cat EJ.
Ralph was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and grew up listening to Harry Carry on the radio. He also loved his Minnesota Vikings. He was a 45 year member of the American Legion. Ralphs favorite pastime was to go to the West Duluth Super One Store and visit with all of the Checkout ladies.
Ralph was a wonderful husband and father. He always was worried if his kids were doing okay right on up to the day he passed.
Ralph is proceeded in death by his parents, Philip and Matilda Giegling, 3 brothers, Richard, Dale and Don Giegling, his loving wife Sondra (Langlie) Rae Giegling and many brother and sister in-laws. He has also lost many close friends.
Ralph is survived by Son, Scott Allen Giegling of Superior, WI, Daughter Stacey (Giegling) Lynn Askelson-Cora (Gary) of Columbia, SC and many nieces, nephews and friends.
The family would like to thank the incredible Hospice Team from St. Lukes Aspirus Hospital for all of their care and assistance. A special thank you to Chaplin Laura Berdahl who is forever our angel! Thank you also to the staff at Viewcrest where he took his last breath.
Service will be held at the Cremation Society of Minnesota 4100 Grand Ave. Duluth, MN on Monday August 12th. Visitation will be at 2 pm and service at 3pm followed by the Honor Guard ceremony. We will hold a small reception after the service of snacks and refreshments at the American Legion Post 71, 5814 Grand Ave, Duluth, MN.
