Obituary of Lyle Duane Bratvold

Lyle D. Bratvold, 89, of Plymouth, Minnesota, passed away on June 10, 2024, at North Memorial Hospital. Lyle was born in 1935 in Maddock, North Dakota. After high school, he enlisted in the US Navy and served for three years at Hickam Air Base in Hawaii. After moving to the Twin Cities, he worked at Honeywell as an electronics technician. He was married to his wife, Marlene, for 65 years, and during their retirement, they traveled all over the country to attend polka dances and enjoyed spending many winters at their home in Mesa, Arizona.

Lyle was preceded in death by parents Louis and Bessie Bratvold, sister Ruby Piper, and brothers Vernon Bratvold and Allan Bratvold. He is survived by sisters Carole Wolfe and Linda Kallenbach; wife Marlene; children Kedric Bratvold, Julie Bratvold, and Greg (Jennifer) Bratvold; and grandchildren Jessica (Adam) Bahr, Garrett Bratvold, Eleanor Ghanbari, Ethan Bratvold, Isabelle Ghanbari, and Madeline Bratvold.

Lyle enjoyed skiing, photography, solving crossword puzzles, traveling in the West and Southwest, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He instilled the values of love, humor, integrity, hard work, and kindness in his children and grandchildren not through words but through his actions and the example he set. He will be missed greatly.

The family will hold a private interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, and a celebration of Lyle’s life will be held on August 17. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests that a charitable donation be made in Lyle’s memory.
