Joyce Walls

Obituary of Joyce Ann Walls

Joyce left this world just as she entered it surrounded by love. On May 28, 2024 God rescued her soul from her ailing body. She was born July 13, 1927 in General Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She was twin to Joy Mae and fourth daughter of Peter Leo and Angeline Amanda Paul. Joyce married Donald Walls of Bovey, Minnesota on August 20, 1950 and they were blessed with twin daughters, Sandra Lee and Sally Ann on October 5, 1951. On November 26, 1978 Joyce became the proud grandma of her one and only Sharla Rae Meyer. Joyce was employed by Red Owl in Coleraine, Minnesota for two years and spent 33 years at F.W. Woolworth Company in Minneapolis, Minnesota. After her retirement from Woolworth’s in July 1994, Joyce became a dedicated volunteer at the Girl Scout Council of Greater Minneapolis, the American Cancer Society, and at Richfield United Methodist Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota ushering and serving funerals and other events. In her later years she continued to volunteer doing filing and preparing checks for mailing for Avinity, labeling meal cards, and took charge of Hennepin County library books at Mainstreet Village where she lived. After a prolonged hospital stay in April 2023 recovering from covid and followed by transitional care she was no longer able to live independently so moved to Summerwood of Chanhassen Assisted Living. She made new friends during lunch and dinner and continued to meet with RUMC Chatter Hatters Red Hat group and Troop 1976 Alumni Girl Scout troop. After another hospital visit in February 2024, she decided she did not want to fight anymore and asked to be removed from meds and strengthening exercise. She was taken to St. Gertrude’s Skilled Nursing and placed on Hospice. For three months she kept wondering if God had forgotten her and was not happy to still be here. On May 28 at 3:28 am she went home to God and now resides in her happy place. Already with her on her next journey are her parents, Peter Leo and Angeline Amanda Paul, her husband of 54 years, Donald Walls, her beloved twin daughter, Sally Ann Walls, twin sister Joy Mae Haasis, sisters Ella Jane Karppi, Mary Jean Langolf, Mabel Angeline MacKenzie and brother Roy Leo Paul. She is survived by daughter, Sandra Meyer, son-in-law Steve Meyer of Chanhassen, Minnesota, granddaughter, Sharla Rae Meyer of Las Vegas, Nevada, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of sharing this life with her. Memorials preferred to: Richfield United Methodist Church.
