Obituary of Carol Lynn Wickstrom

Carol L. Wickstrom, age 89, of Golden Valley, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 19, 2024, at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale.  

Carol was born in Ashland Wisconsin on January 22, 1935, to parents Arthur and Hazel (Carlson) Wickstrom. She was the oldest of four children that were raised on the family farm. She graduated in 1952 from Ondossagon High School. She moved to Minnesota shortly after high school and raised her four children, three daughters and a son. 

Carol worked for Hennepin County where she held many different positions. She was artistically talented, throughout her lifetime she utilized her talent in many different part-time positions including retouching negatives, adding color to black and white photos, sewing beautiful clothing for family and friends. She also worked as a nail tech at Digit’s where she was known for intricate hand painted designs on nails.  

After retirement from Hennepin County, she worked for First Student driving school bus for Minnetonka and Wayzata. She soon realized this was her favorite career, she loved the children and had many fun and interesting stories to share. She focused on spending time with family and hobbies including crocheting blankets, cross-stitching, sewing.  Her love for all animals was huge, especially cats. She enjoyed bringing her cat Beyonce for walks down the halls at Flourish on her walker. 

She is survived by daughters; Debra McLarty, Brenda (Todd) Secord; son Daniel (Jim) Haugen; 8 grandchildren, Brenda, Jennifer, Sarah, Blake, Tyler, Emily, Tre, Andre, Paige. 18 great grandchildren; Karina, Kyle, Mariah, Ayana, Sierra, Michaela, Kaleb, Zoey, Logan, Baby Girl due 8/24, Kohen, Cameron, Akaron, Damien, Devin, Daisy, Hazel & Violet. 3 great great grandchildren; Jae’da, Layla, Marcus Jr; sister Ardys (Tom) Nelson; brother Dave (Judy) Wickstrom; many nieces, nephews, cousins & friends. 

Proceeded in death by her parents Arthur and Hazel (Carlson) Wickstrom; daughter, Doni Secord; sister Sharon Wickstrom. 

May she be remembered as a loving, caring, generous women who had a smile that would light up a room. Carol’s family and friends will never forget her delicious banana bread and the beautiful afghan blankets she made.  

Family and Friends are welcome to join her celebration of life on June 29th from 2-6 at Flourish Senior living 9000 Golden Valley Rd, Golden Valley MN 55427. Private inurnment will be held at Woodland Cemetery in Washburn Wisconsin.
