Obituary of Dick Whitbeck

Dick Whitbeck, born November 21, 1947, passed away peacefully in his home at the age of 76 on May 27th, 2024.

Dick was a devoted husband and father, a lifelong musician, and an avid outdoorsman, fisherman and hunter. Known for his compassion, honesty and integrity with an unmatched work-ethic and attention to detail, Dick was a creative force in the Twin Cities music scene.

Dick Whitbeck's versatility as a musical director was developed through vast experience as a music producer, composer, conductor, orchestrator, arranger, trumpet and flugelhorn player. Dick's musical career includes writing music for radio and television commercials, theater, concert venues, nightclubs, and social and corporate gatherings. His music career began at the age of 14 conducting and directing the award winning Blue Diamonds Big Band. Dick's legacy includes the role of Musical Director at the renowned Guthrie Theater, Resident Conductor and Contractor at the Carlton Celebrity Room, creator and sole director of the famous Rupert's Orchestra, and creator and director of the internationally recognized band, Synergy. He will be remembered as one of the finest musicians in the Twin Cities.

Dick is survived by wife Jackie, children Tony (Anne), Corey (Kathy), Jenna (Alex), Danielle; brother Ron, and five grandchildren.

Memorial Service will be held at Central Lutheran Church in Minneapolis on June 12th at 2pm with reception to follow.
