Obituary of Nancy Hagen

Nancy (McKay) Hagen, age 81, of Apple Valley, MN, passed away on May 23, 2024. She was born on April 21, 1943 in Inglewood, CA, and raised in Preston Township and Harmony, MN. Nancy attended Scotland Country School (grades 1-3) and Harmony Publics Schools (grades 4-12). After graduating from high school in 1961, she attended St. Mary’s School of Practical Nursing in Rochester, MN, where she received her nursing degree in 1963. She continued her education in nursing, receiving her associates degree from Minneapolis Community College and her bachelor of science degree from St. Francis University. Nancy had a fulfilling career as an emergency room nurse at Fairview Ridges Hospital and Hennepin County Medical Center. 

She married her husband, Ronald Hagen, on August 25, 1968 in Minneapolis, MN. They resided in Apple Valley, where they raised their 2 children, Brett and Courtney. 

Nancy enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, reading, and traveling. Some of her favorite trips were to; Scotland, Cuba, Iceland, and Folly Beach, SC. During her travels, she spent time visiting family and friends, and meeting new people along the way. Nancy also had a passion for genealogical research and spent time during her travels learning about and meeting others from the McKay and McNee Clans. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Nancy is preceded in death by; her husband, Ron, parents, Meril and Isabel (McKay) Vrieze, brother, Richard McKay, and sisters Joan (Vrieze) Boos and Shirley (Vrieze) Heikes. She is survived by; her children, Brett Hagen and Courtney (Tom) Olson, grandchildren, Zac and Anna Olson, many half siblings, nieces and nephews, including special niece, Sandi Serdahl, and her sweet dog, Nellie.

 

Friends and family of Nancy are invited to join us to celebrate her remarkable life on July 11th from 2-4pm at The Tavern Grill in Apple Valley.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the American Red Cross.
