Obituary of Lloyd L Winton
Lloyd L. Winton, 93, formerly of Iron River, MI, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2016 at Guardian Angels Care Center in Elk River, MN. He was born on November 2, 1922 in Bates Township, the son of Wilbur and Bertha Winton. Lloyd attended Bates Township schools and Iron River High School, graduating with the Class of 1942. Additionally, Lloyd graduated from Green Bay Business College after he returned from the United States Navy, where he served for 3 years in the South Pacific during World War II. He married Hazel Westerdahl on July 28, 1946. Lloyd worked for many years at the Iron County Reporter as an Advertising Manager. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, where he served on the board. He also served on the Board of Directors of Mineral Hills and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, American Legion and the Iron River Election Board. Lloyd moved his family to Minneapolis in 1966 and worked for the Thermo King Corporation as a machinist; he retired in 1984. Lloyd and Hazel returned to Iron River in 1985 after his retirement. He loved fishing, hunting, traveling, woodworking and spending time with family. Lloyd is survived by his wife Hazel, daughter Deborah (Chuck), brother Patrick, sister Patricia, daughter-in-law Susana, 7 grandchildren -- Lisa, Kaye, Rita, Anthony, Will, Dan and Nikko -- and 9 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son Randy in 2015, and brothers Lester, Earl and James. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on May 23 at Central Lutheran Church of Elk River, MN. Interment follows at 2:00 p.m. at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN.
