Obituary of June Bonlender

On Mother’s Day 2024, June Bonlender peacefully departed this world at the age of 87. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Michael and Augusta Faust. She was born on June 20, 1936, in Chicago, Illinois. June faced adversity including a debilitating stroke at 37 that left her right side paralyzed. June persevered and graduated from UMD in 1982 determined to walk across the stage. Her resilience was remarkable leading her to a fulfilling career as a Chaplain at Miller Dawn Hospital in Duluth, where she dedicated years to serving others.

June’s passions extended beyond her profession, she found joy in cooking, reading, and scrabble. One of her proudest achievements was crossing the finish line completing Grandma’s Marathon propelled by the support of a fellow Chaplain.

June was preceded in death by her sisters, Katie and Gus; her special nephew, Anthony, and her brothers-in-laws, Clarence and David. She leaves behind her sister Marie, as well as her six children: Rick (Mary), Eli (Stacy), Tarri, Jill, Mary Jo, and John. June’s devotion to motherhood was unparalleled, and she took immense pride in her numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In her final days, June reflected on her life with contentment, emphasizing the importance of family. In her last days she repeated these words: “I love my family very much. We are stronger together.” To honor her memory, an International Zoom call will convene on her birthday, celebrating a life rich in love, resilience, and compassion.
