Obituary of Evelyn Hildur Gray



A Life Remembered . . .


Evelyn Hildur (Braier) Gray, of Duluth Minnesota, passed away on January 26, 2024, at the age of 94. She was born August 2, 1929, in Duluth Minnesota to parents, Hildur and John Braier.


Evelyn grew up in Duluth and attended Denfeld High School, graduating in 1947. She worked as a switchboard operator and then at an insurance agency where she met her future husband. Evelyn married Robert Louis Gray on November 24, 1951, in Duluth. They raised their 6 children in the Lakewood Township area.They owned and operated a local laundromat/dry cleaner in Lakeside for many years.  


Evelyn was creative, had a sharp wit and enjoyed many hobbies including silk ribbon embroidery, doll club, miniatures, piano, swimming laps and organ lessons. She volunteered at Glensheen Historic Mansion, the Depot and Lake Superior & Mississippi Railroad. Evelyn found her passion in collecting and showing vintage clothing. She would share her collection and knowledge by holding fashion shows for various organizations in the Duluth area and also took her collection to Colorado for several shows.


Her family and friends will miss all the family gatherings, car shows and picnics on the lawn at their Lester River Road residence. 


Evelyn is predeceased by Robert (2016), her parents, her brother Franklin (2002) and granddaughter Melissa Maree (1985).  She is survived by her six children Linda (Rick) DeKeyser, Pamela (Jeff) Gray-Hann, Daniel (Sheila) Gray, Wendy (Russ) Krook, Robert and Diana (Steve) Greif. Grandchildren Allison, Timothy, Samantha, Jenna, Sarah, Jessica, Jason, Leah, Nicolle, Stephanie, JoJo, Daniel, Amanda, Trista, Kelsey, Robert, Justin and Jacob and many great grandchildren.     


Evelyn touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed by family and friends.

Rest in peace beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
