Hi, my name is Bob Skomars. I went to work for Eddie Greig back in 1971. I was the typical kid who worked at a gas station: rag hanging out of my back pocket along with an air gauge in my shirt pocket. I didn't know much but I would learn a fair amount under Eddie's watchful eye. Eddie called all of us kids "Dummies" and he was right about that!
After Eddie passed I worked for Gary up until the Summer of '73 when I took off to enjoy my last Summer before I went into the Marines. Working for Gary was a wonderful experience and he treated me more than fairly. I upset him a few times but most of my missteps I think he just understood that he was working with a young kid who was trying to learn. I have wondered about Gary over the years and had meant to drive down to the Cities to see him. I missed my chance and it saddens me to know that I did.
I will be forever grateful that both Eddie and Gary took a young know-nothing kid and showed great patience in helping him to learn about the automotive world. Working at Eddie's Standard was my first W-2 job and I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. Thank you Eddie and Gary for the kindness and patience you both exercised with me. I hope we meet again some day. In the meantime, may you both Rest in Peace!
