Birgitta Uhl

Obituary of Birgitta Elise Uhl

Birgitta Uhl passed away on April 29, 2024.

Birgitta was born in Sweden where she lived with her parents and brother Hasse. At the age of 21 she made the move to Minneapolis and stayed with her sponsors John and Harriet Person while working on her US citizenship.

She married Bill H Uhl in 1961. They were long time residents of Bloomington, Minnesota in their one and only house; which stayed in the family and is now proudly owned by their granddaughter Jenny and her family.

She was a person with many talents: knitting, cross stitching (not to be confused with needlepoint which she would point out if mischaracterized), painting, bobbin lace making, and sewing. She also spent many happy hours in the kitchen cooking and baking specialties from her beloved Swedish cookbook. However; her main joy in life was spending time with her family.

During the last three years of her life, Birgitta resided at Haven Homes in Maple Plain, Minnesota, where she was taken care of by an exceptional group of people. She developed a special bond with one of the activities directors, as speaking Swedish with each other was the norm, and this connection to her previous country lifted her spirits immensely. She had many friends among the staff and residents of Haven Homes, and we are grateful for the care they gave her.

Birgitta was preceded in death by her husband, Bill. She is survived by her three offspring: daughter Karin (Tom) Bertoldi, Jack (Jody) Uhl,  and Kris Uhl, grandchildren Jennifer, Tory, Nick, Tyler, Elisa, Katie, Jordan, Ryan and her great grandchildren: Ava, Rocco, Henry, Calvin, Claire, Brooklynn, Hunter and Carter.
