Raymond Thoreson

Obituary of Raymond Wengeler Thoreson

Raymond Wengeler Thoreson (Ray), 87, passed away April 9 after a good long life as a loving & caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and provider to all.

Ray proudly spent 4 years serving his country as a Radioman in the Navy stationed in Panama alongside his new bride, Yvonne. They put their roots down in Bloomington and stayed put for the next 55+ years to raise 5 kids and happily welcome several more generations. He gave 35 years of his skills and passion to United Airlines before retirement.

As committed as he was to his work, all of that dedication was only to provide opportunities for all of to us survive, thrive and follow our own passions. He loved his family & friends truly. He loved the lake, his gardens, his backyard bird visitors and his Cadillac. Beyond that, his greatest joy was the pride he took in all the accomplishments of his loved ones as well as simply spending time with any and all of us.

So many people have described Ray as a “good man”. It is a simple, honest and fitting description because Ray never sought attention. He only wanted everyone else to be happy and to be cared for.

Ray was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Yvonne. He is survived by his children Mark Thoreson, Annette (Brian) Haenszel, Mary (Keith) Rogers, John Thoreson, and Shelly Thoreson (Jim Johnson); his grandchildren, Joey, Kristen, Megan, Heather and Noah; his great-grandchildren, Parker, Elliott, Mattie, Rory, Claire, Levi and Jason.

Military honors ceremony and interment will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, May 16, 2024. Gathering to begin at 9:45 AM for a 10 AM commencement.
