Obituary of Dolores M. Thornes

Thornes, Dolores M. “Dolly” age 91, formerly of Arden Hills, MN and Ft Dodge, Iowa, passed away peacefully on June 11. Loving wife, mother and grandmother, she was preceded in death by her parents, Rudolph and Florence Matson, and her husband Harold Thornes (Thorny). She is survived by her daughters Deborah Redmond (Patrick), Cheryl Lachelt (Ron) and only grandchild, Christine Hackney. Dolly graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1949 with a BS degree in Home Economics & Business with an emphasis in Interiors. She was a member of Gamma Omicron Beta sorority and a cast member of Punchinello Players. Education was important to her and she always stressed that having a good education made women independent. Her education enabled her to have careers in kitchen design, Wool Council promotion, teaching in Public Housing, and appliance testing. She was active in her Church, enjoyed Garden Club, playing cards and entertaining. She was loved by her family and special friends.
