Obituary of James Werner Preiner

James "Jim" Werner Preiner, 87, of Hermantown, died quietly at home on Sunday, May 15, 2016. He was born in Pierz, Minn., on March 29, 1929. Jim worked as a conductor on the DWP Railroad for 46 years. He also worked several years in landscaping and for Conveyor Belt Services of Virginia. He married Lynda (Donner) Preiner on May 7, 1976. They made their home in Hermantown, for the last 40 years. Jim was a happy-go-lucky, fun loving guy. He had many friends and enjoyed curling, hunting, fishing and spending the summers at the cabin on Island Lake. He hunted elk in Colorado, deer in Minnesota and made many fly-in fishing trips to Canada. Jim was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He always loved kids and they loved him. Jim enjoyed traveling, with cruising being his favorite way to travel. He loved to tease and those around him had to be up for the game. Jim was a gracious host and always the life of the party. He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Louise (Flicker) Preiner; brother, Marvin; sisters, Laverne (Harold) Cremers, Norma Preiner and Marlene (Bob) Oelrich and daughter-in-law Barbara (Palach) Preiner. Jim is survived by his wife, Lynda; sons, Jim (Connie) Preiner of Eveleth, Kim Preiner of Gilbert and Jesse (Samantha) Preiner of Blaine; eight grandchildren, Michelle (Jamie) Litke, Carrie (Jered) Banks, David "DJ" (Amanda) Preiner, Nick, Megan, Nate, Jojo and Jacob Preiner; five great-grandchildren, Morgan, Danny, Brooke and Lance Litke and Carlie Banks; the mother of his sons, Jim and Kim, Frances Preiner of Gilbert; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. The family extends a special thank you to the wonderful Essentia Hospice staff.
