Obituary of Daniel John Walkowiak

Daniel John Walkowiak (Pollock), 74, of Duluth, MN, passed away September 6, 2018, at Essentia Health surrounded by his loved ones. He was born January 20, 1944 in Duluth, MN, the son of the late Jacob and Gladys Walkowiak, the 3rd oldest of five siblings. On April 4, 1964, Dan married Peggy Jaski. Dan graduated from Duluth Central High School and completed his Carpentry Apprenticeship shortly after. He worked for Billman's Construction as a Superintendent until retirement. After he retired, he enjoyed fishing at his favorite secret fishing hole at Boulder Lake, playing cards with his brothers, being head cook while hunting at the shack, traveling with Peggy and spending time with his family. Even after Dan's retirement he enjoyed checking out new construction in the area. One of his favorite hobbies was collecting pop tabs and donating them to Ronald McDonald House. Dan is survived by his wife of 54 years, Peggy and his feline companion Lizzie; son, Mike (Lisa) Walkowiak, and daughter, Shelley (Jim) Kiser; his grandchildren, Cassie Walkowiak, Danielle Conner, Tyler Walkowiak and Brandon Meiners; step-grandchildren, Jason Ojala and Jolene Moore; step-great granddaughter, Hailey David; his siblings, Lorraine Godwin, Richard (Joan) Walkowiak, Joe (Lyn) Walkowiak and Joany (Roger) Primm; and several nieces and nephews. A special thank you to the Cardiology Team and 6 West staff at Essentia Health for taking care of Dan and his family during a very difficult time. Gathering of family and friends from 2 p.m. until the 3 p.m. celebration of life Saturday, Sept. 22nd in the Cremation Society of Minnesota Chapel, 4100 Grand Ave, Duluth. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Ronald McDonald House Charity or American Heart Association.
