Obituary of Sandra Joy Zanish Brown
Brown, Sandra Joy, formerly Zanish (nee Peterson), 85, of Mahtomedi, MN. Born February 14, 1938, in Plum City Wisconsin and died February 12, 2024. Preceded in death by her first husband Michael Zanish, her daughter Susan Zanish, her second husband James Brown, and her brother Barry Peterson. Survived by her children Deborah (Dan Danielson) Zanish, Diane Zanish, and Michael Zanish. Grandchildren Carl Danielson, Angela Anderson, Lindsay Butzer, Christina Thompson, Erica Zanish, and Justin Zanish; and Great Grandchildren Kaylee Anderson and Kaiden and Ella Butzer. Also survived by her siblings Charlene (Joe) Skorjanec, Rose (John) Soler, Michelle (Bruce) Minney, Bonnie (Bob) Scott, Mike Beaudry, and many nieces and nephews. Sandy was a bright and engaging soul. She had a limitless appetite for learning. She read constantly, from history, the arts, fiction, spirituality, to Indigenous cultures. She enjoyed painting, gardening and cooking. She was a member of the Birchwood Village Writers group, where she made lifelong friends and published pieces for the White Bear Press and other publications. Since 2018, Sandy lived at St. Andrews Village, where she was beloved by residents and staff, and was known for being able to brighten the day of anyone she encountered. She was much loved and will be terribly missed. Memorial Service at 11:00 AM April 11, 2024, at St. Andrews Lutheran Church 900 Stillwater Road Mahtomedi MN with visitation one hour before and lunch following at noon. Interment at Lakeview Cemetery, North St. Paul.
