Obituary of Eugene Daniel Holmes
Eugene Daniel Holmes, 83, of Duluth, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side in St. Luke's Hospice on May 18, 2016.
Eugene was born in Minneapolis on April 17, 1933, to Harry and Flora (Allen) Holmes.
He graduated in 1950 from South High School and went on to spend the majority of his career working with computers. While living in Minneapolis, Eugene worked for Prudential Insurance and then for Western Stores. In 1972, the family moved to Duluth, where he worked for HBJ until his retirement. Post retirement, he drove dealer trades for Kolar Automotive. Eugene enjoyed hunting and fishing with his boys and he had an interest in raising butterflies, particularly Monarchs. He also enjoyed reading, bowling, sports and his monthly poker game.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lois Larsen; and great-granddaughter, Evelyn Gow.
Eugene is survived by wife, Joan of 59 years; sons, Robert and James; daughters, Stacy Schullo and Marcy (Will) Modeen; grandchildren, Leah (Kyle) Gow, Mindy and Mitch Schullo, Jeremy (Danielle) and Steven Holmes; great-grandchildren, Carson Gow, Kylie and Khloe Holmes; brother, Robert; and sister, Diane (Bud) Rappa as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
The family extends a special thank you to the St. Luke's home and hospital hospice staff as well as Dr. John VanEtta.
