Obituary of Kenneth Charles Durr

Kenneth Charles Durr, 93, passed away in The Birches at Trillium Woods surrounded by his wife, daughter, and son-in-law on March 15, 2024, after complications from stage 4 prostate cancer. He fought with such bravery, courage, and faith in Jesus.

He was born April 3, 1930, in Iron River, Wisconsin to Charles and Laura Durr. After graduating high school and moving to Minneapolis, he met the love of his life, Donna Davis, and married her on August 26, 1950.

Ken discovered early on that he enjoyed construction. He ultimately found his calling by designing and building beautiful homes for hundreds of families around the Twin City area, as well as participating in the Parade of Homes. He and Donna worked as a team on these homes; Ken working on designing and building while Donna on the interior design. Together, they created two successful businesses, Kenneth Durr Associates and Durr LTD, that brought comfort, joy, and beauty to many. Their talents were recognized by those in the industry and collectively they earned several awards for their work. Ken’s greatest passion in life, however, was his family. Every prayer, thought, and decision was for the benefit of his wife, daughters, and extended family. He was the ultimate example of what a good husband and father should be, and exemplified the Gospel in his day-to-day life.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 73 years, Donna; children, Rebecca Westerdahl, Julie (Greg) Johnson; grandchildren Jill, Paul, Siri, Soren, and many other extended family members and friends.

He is preceded in death by parents, Charles and Laura Durr of Iron River; sister, Dorothy, and several aunts and uncles.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to Hope Academy (hopeacademympls.org), a school that offers affordable, diverse, faith-based and rigorous education to families in Minneapolis.

The family would also like to offer sincere thanks to Ken’s oncologist, Dr. Stuart Bloom at the University of Minnesota. We are appreciative of the exceptional care and expertise he received from him.

A celebration of his life will be held at Excelsior Covenant Church on April 6th, 2024 at 2:00pm with refreshments and fellowship following.
