Obituary of Norman Leonard Ohme

Norman Leonard Ohme, 90, passed away on March 1, 2024, in Duluth, MN surrounded by his family. Norm is the son of Ann and Elmer Ohme and was born on February 28, 1934, in Halstad, MN. Norm grew up in the Poole Location on the Iron Range in MN. As a young man, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served his country.

Norm married Beverly Visovatti on June 23, 1962, and they started their life together. They moved to Proctor, MN and built the home that Norm resided in until his death. He was employed by the Duluth, Missabe Iron Range Railway for over 30 years until his retirement in June of 1992.

Norm loved Jesus and serving others. Norm was devoted to his church family at the St. Rose Catholic Church in Proctor, MN and was an active member of the men’s club. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. He spent many years coaching Little League baseball and loved hunting and fishing. In particular, he loved his time on Lake Superior, at Isle Royale National Park, and the annual family trip to Dogtooth Lake in Canada.

Norm is loved and missed by his son Steven (Peggy) and his daughter Lisa. He cherished his grandchildren Alicia Muellner (Matt), Jake Burke, Cassie Roseth (Sam), Nic Burke (Lyndsey), Kristen Gates (Spencer), and Alex Burke. Norm also leaves behind siblings Eleanor Haglin, Kenneth Ohme, and Sandy Runge and their families. He is also survived by 8 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild.

Norm was preceded in death by his parents and infant son Leonard Ohme. He was devastated by the sudden passing of his beloved wife Bev in 2007.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the care givers of Home Instead and the Essentia Hospice team for the compassionate care and support given to Norm and his family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the St. Rose Catholic Church, 2 Sixth Avenue Proctor, MN 55810 on Friday, March 15, 2024, at 11:00am with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service. Military honors and a luncheon will follow.

Memorial donations are preferred to St. Rose Catholic Church or the Proctor Volunteer Fire Department.
