Obituary of Gerald Stone

Gerald Dennis Stone

Gerald (Jerry) Stone, Moose Lake, passed away on Monday, January 1, 2024 at Carefree Assisted Living in Babbitt, MN with family by his side.

Jerry was born October 7, 1942 to Chester and Dorothy Stone.   He graduated from Denfeld High School in 1960, UMD in 1964 (BS in Industrial Arts) and UWS in 1971 (Masters of Science in Education).

Jerry married Beverly Gregg in 1965 and made Moose Lake their home.   He taught industrial arts over 30 years at the Moose Lake school.  He also owned and ran Custom Builders and Hardwoods where he employed teachers and students during the summer with construction projects and provided hardwoods to cabinet makers and schools.  After retiring he and Bev became winter Texans for 15 years.   As a lifelong outdoors enthusiast, Jerry enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, 4 wheeling, and volunteering so others could enjoy the same activities into his 80’s.  Jerry was a leader in local boy scouts, worked to develop/maintain the snowmobile & ATV trail systems in Minnesota, taught snowmobile and ATV safety for youth, and was a member of the Evergreen ATV Club and the Moose Horn Rod and Gun Club.  Jerry was most proud of his strong work ethic, his family, the impact he had on two generations of students and his Corvette.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Beverly and his grandson, Nicholas Lilya.

Jerry is survived by his sister, Janet (Doug) Moroz; daughter, Sheryl (Daniel) Lilya; sons, Steven (Jestina) and Joel Stone.   Also survived by grandchildren:  Michael (Kaitlyn), Daniel and Elyse Lilya, Madison (Mark) Porter, Grace and Alivia Stone.

Service will take place on Saturday May 18th at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Moose Lake with visitation  from 10 AM to 11 AM followed by a church service and luncheon of Jerry's favorite BBQ foods.

In lieu of flowers, family is asking for donations to be used to build a new trail shelter in memory of Jerry Stone and grandson Nick Lilya.  Donations can to be sent to:Moose Horn Rod and Gun Club at 3902 Co. Rd. 6  Barnum, MN 55707
