Obituary of Barbara Jean Weiers
Barbara Jean Weiers, 88, of New Prague, MN, passed away on the afternoon of February 22nd, 2024 with her children by her side at Mala Strana Assisted Living Center in New Prague, MN.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Robert Weiers of Union Hill, MN, and brothers Roy "Jerry" Deutsch and Daniel Deutsch of St. Paul, MN.
She is survived by her children, Laurie Simon, Dan Weiers (Shelly Mader), Sue Weiers (Jeff Weiers), Joan Lunde, of New Prague, and Alan "Al" Weiers of Minneapolis. She is additionally survived by her 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Barb was born on September 3rd, 1935 to Roy and Marion (DesLauriers) Deutsch in Duluth, MN. She lived in Duluth, MN for the first 3 years of her life before her family moved to St. Paul, MN where she attended College at St. Catherine University after graduating high school. After college, Barb moved to New Prague where she married husband Bob Oct 12, 1957. Warm, friendly and compassionate, Barb was a loving homemaker who had a passion for baking, baseball, all forms of wildlife, playing softball, board games, and taking care of her children. She also enjoyed volunteering to local churches and charities and was a member of New Prague Ladies Guild and the Montgomery Legion. She worked several jobs throughout her adult life, most notably 20 years as sales clerk for Jeff's Clothing in New Prague where she developed many meaningful relationships with her customers. She also loved, and was loved by, all of her children's friends and acquaintances, keeping lifelong friendships with most of them.
But more than anything, Barb loved spending time with her 27 grandchildren. Nothing made her happier than when she got to see them, play with them, and watch them grow. She enjoyed her final, comfortable years at Mala Strana where she always looked forward to the community events, visiting with the caring staff, meal times with her friends and quality time watching baseball and game shows with her beloved cat, Curio on her lap.
Funeral services and celebration of life are scheduled for Friday, April 12 at St. Wenceslaus Church in New Prague. Visitation at 9:30 and funeral service at 10:30. Post service gathering and meal service will be held at The Depot Event Center in New Prague immediately after.
