Obituary of Judith Elaine Nelson
Judy, 79, passed away on February, 10th 2024. She was born in December, 1944 in Florida during WWII while her father was stationed there in the Coast Guard. Newlyweds, her mother had relocated to be near him. Judy subsequently grew up in Chicago and Stevens Point, WI. Her greatest passion was taking care of others, both in her career and her friends. Judy started her lifelong career in nursing in the Chicago area for a number of years, and then moved to Minneapolis, where her sister lived, to earn a Masters in Nursing from the U of MN. She bought a duplex in the Longfellow neighborhood where she became very involved, especially with Epworth United Methodist Church. Wherever she lived, Judy became very attached to the area and would learn it well, whether it was nature areas or ‘manmade’ places. She was proud of her 100% Swedish heritage and had the good fortune to travel there with her grandmother to meet relatives. Unfortunately, Judy was dealt numerous health challenges, both physical and mental, throughout her life. Despite this, she was always going way beyond the norm in helping others. Finally, life threw one last challenge at her that she couldn’t overcome and she lived with dementia the last few years of her life.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Wil and Catherine Nelson, her brother, Ken Nelson, and survived by her sister, Bonnie Nelson.
