Bob was a wonderful friend during school days and after, with wide interests that included literature and writing, though it was the outdoors and nature that he was dedicated to from an early age, as his obituary makes clear. He was uniquely independent and you never knew when he'd pop up - he once located me in the University of Minnesota library where I was studying for an exam, after driving 400 miles from Omaha and having two flat tires and no spare, having to walk over a mile each time to have the tire repaired and filled. How he found me in that spot I'll never know. Bob had a great sense of humor, was an athlete, an intellectual, a farmer, a young man with a degree from Creighton University, an amazingly hard worker at every task - and he loved to roam. I knew his lovely wife, Jan, and his daughters, when they farmed in Minnesota and we managed to keep in touch over the decades. Bob was loyal, always interesting, always his own man. I have a deep sense of loss learning of his death. He was uniquely himself.
