Obituary of Eldora Ann Recksiedler
Eldora Ann Recksiedler, 95, of Duluth passed away at Diamond Willow Lester Park on February 15, 2024. She was born to Albert and Natalia (Mantie) Recksiedler and grew up near Morris, Manitoba in Canada. She taught in two country schools as well as in Selkirk Manitoba. Eldora was an elementary teacher in Detroit Lakes and Montevideo before moving to Duluth. She taught first grade at Lowell and Birchwood schools before assisting in Head-Start and Follow-Through, and the Coordinator of Early Childhood Education for many years. Eldora traveled extensively and enjoyed meeting people in Africa, India, Vietnam China and many other places in Europe, the US and Canada. As homes for the refugees were needed, she accepted 17 young Vietnamese to live in her home and helped them complete their education. She was an active member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and was active in CHUM and other organizations in the Duluth community.
Eldora was preceded in in death by her parents, sisters Dorthy (Wes) Blom, and Marion (John) Wuotila. She is survived by her sisters Verna Bergquist of Two Harbors and Alice (Ed) of Vancouver, B.C. as well as many nieces and nephews. The Vietnamese that lived with her for many years, will miss contacts with “Grandma”.
Our family would like to thank the staff at Diamond Willow and St. Croix Hospice for their wonderful and compassionate care.
Memorial Services will be held Saturday March 2nd at 11:00 am at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church with visitation an hour prior and a reception following. In lieu of flowers, contributions to CHUM or Gloria Dei would be appreciated.
